HIFU / Skin Tightening

Uses focused ultrasound energy to target deeper skin layers and may help improve the appearance of skin laxity, performed by a registered doctor.

Firm, lifted facial contour
01Who it's for
  • You've noticed mild to moderate skin laxity along the jawline, cheeks, or neck
  • You'd prefer a non-surgical option and want to understand what it can realistically address
  • You're looking for a treatment with limited downtime that fits around travel
  • You want a registered doctor to assess whether your skin is suitable before proceeding

How the treatment works

HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) delivers focused ultrasound energy to targeted depths beneath the surface of the skin. Rather than affecting the outer layer, the energy is concentrated at specific points in the deeper tissue, where it produces controlled heating in small, precise zones. This is designed to stimulate the skin’s natural repair response in those areas.

Over the weeks that follow, this response is associated with gradual changes in the treated tissue. For this reason, HIFU may help improve the appearance of skin laxity along areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and neck. The effect is gradual rather than immediate, and the degree of change varies between individuals depending on factors such as skin quality and the extent of laxity.

Your doctor selects the treatment depths and which areas to address based on an examination of your skin, so that energy is delivered where it is most appropriate for you. Because results build over time, realistic expectations are discussed at consultation, and follow-up can be reviewed if needed.

This is a doctor-performed treatment at Sera Aesthetic Clinic, using BPOM-notified products. Suitability is assessed individually; some skin types and medical histories may mean it is not recommended.

02What to expect

During the session you may feel brief warmth or a tingling sensation as the energy is delivered beneath the skin's surface. Most people tolerate this well, and your doctor can adjust settings for comfort. Results develop gradually over the following weeks rather than immediately.

03Your session, step by step
  1. 01

    Consultation & assessment

Your doctor reviews your goals and medical history and examines the degree and pattern of laxity in the areas you'd like to address.

  2. 02

    Planning the treatment

Together you agree which areas to treat and the depth settings, so the approach suits your skin and expectations.

  3. 03

    Treatment

Focused ultrasound energy is delivered through a handpiece in a series of passes across the planned areas. A session commonly takes around 45–60 minutes.

  4. 04

    Aftercare guidance

You'll receive simple aftercare instructions before you leave, with WhatsApp support if you have questions.

04Recovery & aftercare

Little to no downtime. Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area usually settles within a few hours to a couple of days; gradual changes develop over the following weeks.

You'll get specific aftercare guidance before you leave, plus WhatsApp support if you have questions afterwards.

“Outcomes vary with the degree of laxity and skin quality, which is why we assess each person individually before recommending HIFU.”

05Frequently asked questions
Is HIFU a non-surgical alternative to a facelift?
HIFU is a separate, non-surgical treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to target deeper skin layers. It may help improve the appearance of skin laxity but does not replicate surgery. Your doctor will discuss what is realistic for your skin at consultation.
When will I see results from HIFU?
Changes are not immediate. Because the treatment works by targeting deeper layers of skin, results typically develop gradually over the following weeks. Your doctor will explain a realistic timeline for your skin and discuss whether further sessions may be appropriate.
Does the treatment hurt?
Sensation varies between individuals. Many people describe brief warmth or a tingling feeling as the ultrasound energy is delivered. Your doctor can adjust the settings for comfort, and you can give feedback throughout the session so the experience is manageable.
Is there any downtime before a holiday or event?
Downtime is usually minimal, with any mild redness or tenderness settling within a few hours to a couple of days. Because results develop over weeks, book with enough lead time if you're treating before an event, and your doctor can advise on timing.
