How the treatment works
Anti-wrinkle injections use botulinum toxin, a purified protein that temporarily reduces the activity of specific muscles. When small amounts are placed into the muscles responsible for expression lines, those muscles relax, and the overlying skin creases less when you frown, concentrate, or smile. Over time, this can soften the appearance of dynamic lines.
The treatment is targeted. Your doctor selects which muscles to treat based on how your face moves, so that softening is balanced and your natural expression is preserved. Common areas include the frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and the lines at the outer corners of the eyes.
Because the effect is temporary, the result gradually wears off and movement returns. Many people choose to return for maintenance, while others prefer to let it fully wear off between treatments. Your doctor will talk through what is realistic for your features and goals, and will only recommend treating areas that are suitable for you.
